Happy Labor Day! I hope that yours is filled with family, friends, rest and healthy foods, or at least mostly. That’s what I wanted to talk about today.
It’s easy for us to get caught in the trap of seeking perfection. We have to be perfect in how we eat, how we exercise, how we dress, how we perform at work, how our house looks, and the list goes on. What’s even worse is that we often hold others to those same standards.
This can all cause a lot of stress. All of these requirements of perfection can pile up until they get so high that we just can’t carry them anymore. Eventually things start slipping through our fingers. (For me it’s usually the healthy eating.) The dam has been broken. This can lead to us dropping a lot of those high standards or maybe just spiraling in the one that’s let slip.
When I’ve blown my healthy eating standards, I usually blow it in spectacular fashion. You can bet if that craving for pancakes and maple syrup is filled in the morning, my lunch and dinner will consist of a Big Mac Value Meal and half a pizza. But sometimes I don’t.
Sometimes I’m able to just blow that one meal, enjoy it and get back on the horse. I usually feel a lot better when I’m able to do this. It’s also why I only ever plan a cheat meal for dinner. I find this to be a lot better and more sustainable.
So what should you do when you (or someone else) has broken one of these impossible standards? You could choose to accept the imperfect moment and recognize it for what it was, just a moment.
Take take care of yourself this holiday and enjoy the moments!
Please share, like and comment below. You can even share one of your spectacular blowouts; I won’t judge. Have a good one!
